Youth–Adult Partnerships
Young people and adults can work collaboratively to address real-world challenges and community issues. Youth–Adult Partnerships are collaborative relationships in which all participants have equal opportunities to contribute, participate in decision-making, apply their skills, and learn from one another. The foundation of effective Youth–Adult Partnerships is mutual respect, shared responsibility, and meaningful engagement.
Preparing for Youth–Adult Partnerships
Successful Youth–Adult Partnerships do not occur spontaneously; they require careful planning, preparation, and ongoing support. Adopting a Positive Youth Development approach is essential to fostering productive and inclusive collaboration. Furthermore, both young people and adults may benefit from coaching, training, and capacity-building activities to develop the skills and competencies necessary for effective participation. Such preparation helps ensure that all ideas, perspectives, decisions, contributions, and strengths are recognized, respected, and valued. Clear goals, defined roles, and shared expectations are also critical to establishing successful and sustainable partnerships that promote learning, leadership, and positive social change.
